The step up from entry level motorsport to higher formats is huge, and so is the cost - restrictively so for most young driving talent. Sponsorship is the lifeblood that keeps the wheels turning, and it can be an epic fight to get the funding you need to keep dreams alive. Enter The Pitlane Project.

Two young racing drivers are turning the traditional funding model on a sixpence, leveraging modern business methods, socials, video - everything at their disposal - to keep the show on the road.

The Pitlane Project offers a different approach…

STRATEGY

Dudley Ruddock and Johnny Lynch formed The Pitlane Project, an initiative where they are partnering with various businesses and their products and learning about all the necessary skills they need to make profit margins to fund their racing.

Submersing themselves in the world of business, they have built a network of distribution relationships for various products from their largest partner, RAWCO Limited. RAWCO designs and developes products and services surrounding sustainability and their management team are also supporting through business and product training.

The mission is to bridge the gap of funding that they simply don’t have and hopefully in some cases pay for their chosen championship in its entirety. Profits from sales will fall into a pool that will be shared to fund the next chapter of the their racing journey, furthermore the project invites and encourages other drivers with links and relationships in business, to see if The Pitlane Project can also help them gain the necessary funding to go racing.

This is a fresh, positive and strategic method to gain the necessary funding for the drivers to progress. Although they’re approaching sponsorship from a new angle, the advertisement stays the same and for large partners investing into the products on offer, company logos on cars and merchandise is available in the traditional sense of sponsorship.

Business TRAINING

Dudley and Johnny have received intensive training for all products and services within the RAWCO range, with support from manufacturers so no stone will be left unturned or opportunities missed. They have found their niche and promote products they feel comfortable with and feel excited about. The training has encouraged them to work together, whilst also building their own individual strengths and relationships with clients and partners.

The RAWCO team are building the various skill sets that they need to succeed including networking, presentation pitches, customer care and sales execution.

DOCUSERIES

If the concept of The Pitlane Project wasn’t exciting enough, a media team will create a 10-part docuseries to be aired on YouTube and shorts on Instagram and TikTok. The crew will follow The Pitlane Project, filming the idea/conception, product training, board meetings, track testing, team interviews, the highs and the lows as the drivers push for potential partners and the all-important track time.

THE TARGET FOR 2026

With single seaters being the natural next step from karting, the GB4 Championship organised and run by MSV is a fantastic option. It offers a well-managed and controlled championship with all races covered on YouTube and social media platforms.

Dudley and Johnny are looking to secure seats later this year when finances permit. Yearly drives for GB4 teams range from £200k to over £300k + damages.

ESPORTS TEAM

As part of the project, they’re building their own Esports team that will advertise the project, the drivers and all associated partners. The plan is to compete in all the major endurance categories.
